fostering saves lives
Why Foster?
Fosters are crucial to our work. Without the support of our fosters and their willingness to open their hearts and homes, we wouldn't be able to help at-risk dogs from environments riddled with abuse and neglect, or the looming torment or euthanasia. Fosters provide the dogs we save with a safe and loving space to decompress from their past lives, creating a seamless transition from their foster to forever home. Being a foster parent is no easy feat, but what you get in return is more emotionally fulfilling for your soul than we could ever begin to tell you.
If you would like to become a HIT Living Foster pawrent or family, please fill out a Foster Application and allow up to 48 hours for one of our dedicated foster coordinators to respond to your application. If we don’t have an animal in immediate need of a foster, we’ll keep your information close for when that times comes (and trust us, there will always be a time!).
About Fostering.
The HIT Living Foundation is 100% foster-based. This means that when we rescue a dog, whether it’s from a shelter, the streets, a neglect situation, or owner surrender, our dogs are placed in our pre-approved foster homes. When you sign up to be a foster parent, you’re accepting the emotional and physical responsibility of the dog you agree to care for until the dog finds its furever family.
We provide all supplies and/or pay for all approved expenses which include medical needs, food, and/or any other supplies your foster dog needs unless you, the foster family, would like to pay for and donate those items - which is never expected and always appreciated! If you would like to purchase supplies for your foster, keep your receipt as whatever you donate to the HIT Living Foundation is tax-deductible. We ask that our fosters make themselves available to bring their foster dog in for vet visits, meet and greets, and adoption events in the Los Angeles area. However, we understand schedules get busy and will always do our best to have someone from our team available if you’re unable to accommodate your foster dog’s schedule.
Along with rescuing at-risk dogs in the greater Los Angeles area, the HIT Living Foundation will continue working with rescues in the Bahamas and Mexico to help save dogs internationally. To make this a success, we need Southern California based fosters until we find our international rescue dogs their furever families.
