the Adoption Process
Start a story. Adopt.
We’re so excited to accompany you on this magical journey to find your furever family member. First things first, make sure to thoroughly fill out the adoption application. Be as detailed as possible to help us get to know you, your personality, lifestyle, and wants with your potential new furbaby. This helps us make sure you and the dog your applying to adopt are the right fit, and if it doesn’t work out with that dog, your detailed application will help us match you with the dog that’s purrfect for you and your furever family member.
Once you've submitted your application and home video tour, please allow at least 48 hours for our volunteer team to review it. If your application is approved, and we think you’re a good match for the dog you’re applying for, one of our dedicated volunteer adoption coordinators will call to follow-up with you in a phone interview as a next step in the adoption application process. If your application is approved, we will coordinate a virtual meet and greet, and/or an in-person meet and greet
When you’re getting ready for your meet and greet here are some things to keep in mind:
Step 1:
home check.
A mandatory virtual home check is required in order to review your application. This allows us to have a clear picture of the environment the dog will live in. If we find an potential issue that may cause the dog to be unsafe, we may ask you to fix and send in a new home video. We reserve the right to conduct an in-person home check at the description of our team.
Step 2:
Meet & greet
If you have other dogs (or pets), children, or anyone else in your home environment who will interact or be involved with the dog on a regular basis, make sure to bring them to the meet and greet or have them at the designated meet and greet location. This an important opportunity for the dog to meet everyone he/she will be living with and help set up everyone for a happy and successful happily furever after.
Step 3:
the Adoption!
If we (the HIT Living Foundation team) and you (the potential adopter) collectively determine the dog is the right fit, you’ll be asked to finalize the adoption by signing an adoption contract to make it official!
Adoption Donation Fees
Funds from your adoption donation are used to help offset the costs to rescue, foster, and rehabilitate (when necessary) the dog you are adopting. In addition, your donation assists us in our mission to rescue and rehabilitate other deserving dogs in need. Each adoption donation covers a fraction of the total costs associated with these rescue efforts. As a small rescue organization, these funds are essential. Without them, our efforts would quickly come to an end.
Your Adoption Donation is 100% tax-deductible. Please also check with your employer to see if they will match your donation by providing them with your adoption agreement receipt.
Adoption donation fees generally range from $550 to $800 and can vary depending on age and rehabilitation required to ensure they have a healthy and happy life with their furever family. These donation fees take into consideration age, training level, temperament, how long they’ve been in our care, medical condition(s) if any, and numerous other factors. Every dog in the care of the HIT Living Foundation is spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, and current on DHPP and Rabies Vaccines.
Please Note: Certain breeds of dogs may have a higher adoption donation because they require more expensive care, such as specific food, medication, training, and specialized medical attention. Additionally, the demand for certain breeds and the challenges in finding the right homes for some dogs may also contribute to the higher adoption donation.
The Adoption Donation Fee is due at the time of the adoption and is non-refundable.
If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs please complete our online application.
